Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Simply Creative Escapes ("we", "us", "our") collects when you purchase or play our online escape-room experiences, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. By using our service you agree to the practices described here.
Who we are
Simply Creative Escapes operates browser-based, multiplayer online escape-room games. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
- Business: Frenika Devon (trading as Simply Creative Escapes)
- Postal address: [add your business postal address before launch]
- Contact: escape@frenikadevon.com
Information we collect
- Purchase details. When you buy a game, we collect the email address you provide at checkout so we can deliver your room code and host link. Payment card details are entered on Stripe's secure checkout and are never received or stored by us.
- Gift details. If you buy a game as a gift, we collect the recipient's email address and, optionally, your name and a personal message, so we can deliver the gift.
- Gameplay information. To run a live game we temporarily process the display names players choose, in-game chat messages, puzzle progress, and connection status. Most of this is deleted when the game room is cleaned up.
- Ratings and feedback. If you rate a game or leave written feedback, we store it to improve our games and to display anonymized highlights (see "Testimonials" below).
- Newsletter sign-ups. If you opt in, we store your email address to send you news about new rooms.
- Technical and log data. Our servers keep standard operational logs (such as error diagnostics and timestamps) to keep the service secure and working.
How we use your information
- To create your game room and email your room code, host link, and instructions.
- To deliver gifts to the recipient you choose, on the date you choose.
- To run the real-time multiplayer experience while you play.
- To provide customer support and respond to your messages.
- To send our newsletter, only if you have opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- To understand and improve our games, including publishing anonymized testimonials.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and meet our legal obligations.
Legal bases (for EU/UK users)
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to deliver the game you purchased), consent (for newsletter marketing — which you may withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests (to secure the service, prevent abuse, and improve our games in ways that don't override your rights).
Testimonials
We may publish short, anonymized quotes from player feedback on our website. We do not publish your name or email address alongside feedback. If you'd prefer we not use your feedback, email us and we'll remove it.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we rely on to operate, each acting as our processor:
- Stripe — processes payments securely. Card details go directly to Stripe.
- MailerLite — delivers our newsletter to subscribers who opt in.
- IONOS — provides our website hosting and email delivery.
Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, such transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards (for example, Standard Contractual Clauses). We may also disclose information if required by law.
Cookies and local storage
We use only what's necessary to make the game work. Your browser stores small items (such as your host link) in local storage so you can return to your game, and our admin area uses a session cookie for login. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers.
How long we keep it
- Game rooms and gameplay data (the buyer email on the room, player display names, in-game chat, votes, and progress) are retained for up to 365 days and then permanently deleted by an automated process.
- Game statistics and feedback. We keep anonymous records of completed games (such as completion times, ratings, and written feedback) indefinitely to run leaderboards, publish testimonials, and improve our games. The identifying email address attached to these records is removed within 365 days, leaving the statistics and feedback in anonymized form.
- Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
You can ask us to delete your personal information sooner — see "Your rights" below.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the UK/EU GDPR and the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. We do not sell or "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any of these rights, email escape@frenikadevon.com and we'll respond within the time the law requires. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in each email. If you're in the EU/UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children's privacy
Our games must be purchased by an adult (18 or older), and the adult who buys and hosts a game is the account holder we deal with. The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age).
Families and younger players may play together in a room set up and supervised by an adult. Playing does not require a child to give us any personal information — the only details a player enters are a display name and in-game chat, and we ask that children not enter real names, email addresses, or other identifying information there. The hosting adult is responsible for supervising the minors they invite.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, or you would like to review or delete it, contact escape@frenikadevon.com and we will delete it promptly. This is consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent protections under the UK/EU GDPR.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted payment processing through Stripe and secure transport for our website and emails. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll change the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will be reflected here.
