The story so far
DECEMBER 31, 1999 — 11:59 PM
Every radio in the city is tuned to WJAM 99.9 — "The Jam" for The Big 100: a live countdown of the decade's hundred greatest R&B, pop, and hip-hop jams, with the #1 song of the 90s revealed at the stroke of midnight.
But midnight never came.
With one song left to play, the station's legendary host DJ Rewind looked at the clock, whispered "not yet," and hit REWIND. The Golden Master — the only copy of track #1 — vanished into the station's locked studios, and the whole city got stuck in the loop: the same block party, the same 99 songs, the same countdown that never finishes. It's been 11:59 PM ever since. (Officially, the mayor blames the Y2K bug. The kids on the block say the DJ did it.)
Now it's your crew's turn. Slip through the stage door of Studio 99.9, take your places — the turntables, the mixing board, the video wall, and the mic — and follow the trail of clues DJ Rewind scattered through the greatest decade in music. Find track #1. Hit PLAY. Finish the countdown.
You have 60 minutes before the master reel rewinds and the night starts over. Finish the countdown. Start the millennium. Escape the 90s.
